Cathay Requires Bigger Airbus A350-900 XWB of Cathay Pacific
Cathay Requires Bigger Airbus. Cathay Pacific said it is talking to Airbus Group in the aircraft manufacturer proposal for an expanded version of the new A350 widebody aircraft, a model that needs to attract a strong set of initial customers to get the nod.
Cathay, which already has 48 A350s on order, is very interested in a variant called stretched that Miami would serve as nonstop destinations from its base in Hong Kong, CEO Ivan Chu in an interview.
the largest international airline in Asia by passengers took the first of 22 A350-900 has 325 seats in the last weekend, and also the purchase of 26.366 seats A350-1000s. An even bigger plane, unofficially known as the A350-8000, could have more seats, or trade off capacity compared to an increase of the range.
Cathay Pacific will use the A350-1000 to serve the east and west coasts of the US, the aircraft could not reach Miami or some of the possible destinations in Latin America, Chu said.
The airline is also in contact with the Rolls-Royce power plant in a more powerful XWB engine upgrade would be required for additional range. Ongoing conversations are "routine" Chu said. "We are interested in seeing what they can do," he said in Dublin, before the annual meeting of the International Air Transport there.
Airbus CEO Fabrice Brégier, said this week that Airbus continues to assess if there is sufficient demand to justify investing several billions of euros in a larger A350, and that the decision is unlikely to get the Farnborough Airshow in mid-July.
The backbone of the long-haul fleet is currently Boeing 777-300ER, with 53 fleet, 21 next generation Boeing 777-9Xs in the order of the list.
Chu said he is not interested in Airbus A380 Super Jumbo, which usually is equipped with 525 seats that do not favor high frequency time necessary to attract corporate passengers.
