Denmark To Purchase 27 F-35 jet fighter. The defense ministry have recommended the selection of the Lockheed Martin F-35 fighter aircraft as the future of the nation, after an evaluation involving the Boeing F/A-18 Super Hornet and the Eurofighter Typhoon.Announced by Prime Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen on May 12, Denmark to acquire 27 conventional takeoff and landing F-35As occurs after an expert panel classified the type for the first time in all criteria. The type US "Will involve the greatest potential to promote Danish interests, both in terms of security policy and military strategy" and "provide the highest degree of flexibility at the political level with respect to future tasks", states the Ministry of Defence.
During the evaluation, the Typhoon was second candidate- but more expensive - while the third candidate is Boeing Super Hornet. A summary document states: "the small group of users Super Hornet and the geographic location of users away from the neighboring areas of Denmark have been contributing factors."
As an international long-term partner in the F-35 project, the European nation had previously projected a potential to be for 30 units purchase. However, the MoD says the new figure of 27 reflects the economic challenges facing the country. If completed, an acquisition would replace its Lockheed F-16AM/BMS series. Unfortunately, they not revealed the deal worth to, but analyst said that it would be billions of dollars deal.
